John Erb, a long time research assistant at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ont. Canada, discovered that no strain of rats or mice is naturally obese. In order to do studies on obesity in animals, the scientists had to create obese animals to use in diabetes test studies. In hundreds of studies around the world it was described that obese mice and rats were created. The way to do this is by injecting them with MSG (monosodium glutamate) when they are first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing animals to become obese. These animals are referred to as “MSG-Treated Rats.”Upon making this discovery, John Erb checked the cupboards in his kitchen and fridge and found that MSG was in everything! A few examples: Campbell’s soups, Lay’s Doritos, Lay’s flavored potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, and Kraft salad dressing. You will not always find MSG described as an additive on the label of the processed foods. Manufacturers know that many people, aware of the danger of MSG, avoid foods labeled as containing it, its presence is often disguised by calling it “Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein”. MSG was also added to Burger King, McDonalds, Wendy’s, Taco Bell and particularly Kentucky Fried Chicken–every restaurant uses MSG in abundance.
John Erb explains in his book, an expose of the food additive industry, called The Slow Poisoning of America, that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body! The food manufacturer’s lobby states that the reason why MSG is added to food is to make people eat more! MSG is also a flavoring substance and, according to the manufacturers, addicts people to their product. It was scientifically proven to be an addictive substance as long ago as 1978.
The FDA has set no limits on the amount of MSG that may be added to foods. They claim that it is safe in any amount. Yet, MSG’s side effects have been known for decades. They include diabetes, migraines, autism, ADHD, even Alzheimer’s disease.
Meantime a political lobby is pushing a Bill through Congress called the “Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Bill”, also referred to as “Cheeseburger Bill” which bans anyone from suing food manufacturers, sellers and distributors. It passed the House of Representatives and is expected to pass the Senate and will protect the food and beverage industry from civil lawsuits regarding adding dangerous and additive chemicals to foods.
We revert to our oft-repeated warning: to protect your health, eat only fresh (not processed) organic foods and limit restaurant meals to rare occasions–if indulged in at all.
Cause of Autism
While researching the book The Slow Poisoning of America, John Erb discovered a connection between the the food additive Monosodium Glutamate and the abnormal development of the brain.
Having had over a decade of experience working with people with Autism he was always fascinated by their above average intelligence in certain areas. Since glutamate is a primary amino acid involved in brain growth, Mr. Erb published the theory that Autism is being caused by intake of high amounts of Monosodium Glutamate. Later he found that Glutamate is an ingredient in over a dozen vaccines, possibly creating the occurrence of Autism several months after what had been a normal infant development.
In the five years since publishing his theory, John Erb has expanded upon his research and gathered more evidence to support it.
Mr. Erb's research report of 2006 titled The Slow Poisoning of Mankind: The Toxic effects of MSG, included several studies to validate his theory that MSG is linked to Autism. One study referred to in the Report proved that excess glutamate triggers proliferation and differentiation of brain cells.
The recent Autism Genome Project of 2007 reported that the genes that shared a similarity in individuals with Autism were involved in Glutamate Transport.
In an effort to bring this to the attention of the public, John Erb contacted a variety of government and private agencies.
In December of 2006 he was invited to give testimony before the Canadian Senate Committee on Autism where he presented his theory of the food and vaccine additive MSG triggering the Autism epidemic.

In November of 2007 the Interagency Autism Committee on Autism convened in Washington D.C. The session was opened with a speech from the Secretary of Health Michael Leavitt, and was closed with a final speech from John Erb.

In May of 2008 John Erb appeared again before the Autism Committee, this time with the aid of Carol Hornlein, food scientist and founder of www.msgtruth.com.

John Erb believes that the Petition he has filed with the FDA demanding the removal of Glutamate containing additives from the food supply of the United States. He believes that once this happens, and it is also removed from vaccines, we will see a reduction in new cases of Autism across the country.
Please add your comments to the petition by going to the following website and clicking the orange button beside document 0002. Comment is open to all, even to those who live in other countries.

Together we can put an end to the spreading epidemic of Autism.
